How is your quality of life?
A new study reports that “nuisance symptoms” – those low-grade problems that interfere with your daily activities – can have a big impact on a person’s overall quality of life.
The study looked at low-grade (non-serious) symptoms among people in the ENESTnd trial that compared Tasigna with Gleevec (Guérin and colleagues. Curr Med Res Opin 2014;30:2317-2328). The biggest problem symptoms were gastrointestinal complaints (nausea and diarrhea), fatigue, swelling in the extremities, muscle aches and spasms, insomnia, and anxiety. All of these were found to significantly impair a person’s quality of life. Most of these problems were generally worse with Gleevec compared to Tasigna. The sole exception was psychological symptoms (insomnia, anxiety), where the two drugs had a similar impact.
